European Cups - Champions League (qual.) Udinese vs Arsenal

Udinese coach Francesco Guidolin, told his players to minimize errors in the face Arsenal in Champions League play-off second leg on Thursday (25 / 8) early morning hrs.
Udinese who finished last season ranked fourth in Serie A deficit in one goal after losing 0-1 thanks to goals from Theo Walcott single in the Emirates.
Juventus took the victory with a margin of at least two goals to qualify for the Champions League group stage.
"Of course the second leg will be much more difficult. We are facing one of the best teams in Europe and 1-0 in the first leg result makes you very worried," Guidolin said as quoted by Sportinglife.
"We must not make the slightest mistake and have to score goals. Arsenal had a speed that could punish us when out of focus or lose the balance of the game,"
"We can still qualify. On the first leg we were probably a little too concerned with the strength of Arsenal, but we will not wave the white flag before the game ended," said Guidolin

European Cups - Champions League (qual.) Arsenal vs Udinese

Veteran striker Udinese, Antonio Di Natale, said that the match his team to face Arsenal in Champions League qualifying playoffs 2011-12 is the most important game in the history of Udinese.
Not only that, Di Natale also feel proud to be part of this important game for his club in European competition.
Udinese will face Arsenal on a two-game playoff to fight a ticket to compete in the 2011-12 Champions League group round. "I just remember the match Udinese against Ajax in 1997, but at that time in the UEFA Cup and Champions League this time is," says Di Natale in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Although I'm no longer young, but this remains an emotional game to play at the Emirates,"
"At club level it is today, the game against Arsenal is the most important challenge in my career. Probably about the same as diving debut for the national team, but here I am as a team captain,"

World Cup (Under 20) - Play-Off Spain VS Korea Republic

Julen Lopetegui and Lee Kwang Jong both have all their players at their disposal as they plot their way into a quarter-final against Brazil or Saudi Arabia. The former will have some difficult decisions to make, given that he rested a couple of first-choice players during a 5-1 win over Australia in which the incomers impressed. Sergio Canales has dazzled after missing Spain's opener through injury, while Rodrigo and Alvaro Vazquez have both showcased their finishing prowess. The collective work of the Korea Republic team is regarded as their strength, though in Lee Ki Je and Kim Young Uk they have players capable of turning a game. Can they tick a box that three teams failed to in the first phase and find a way to neutralise La Roja's gorgeous passing football?

World Cup (Under 20) - Play-Off Brazil VS Saudi Arabia

Brazil began a tournament many are expecting them to win with an underwhelming draw against Egypt before hitting their stride with big victories over Austria and Panama. Nevertheless, coach Ney Franco does have some concerns, especially at the back, having been forced to make two first-half substitutions in Brazil’s final group game against the Panamanians in a bid to address their defensive failings.

Franco is pondering whether to stick with the players who came on then, and push makeshift full-back Danilo into a more familiar midfield role. He has no such problems up front, where Henrique, Philippe Coutinho, Oscar and the versatile Casemiro have been carving out chance after chance with their snappy passing and fluid movement, which could yet provide the key to the country’s fifth world title at this level.

Brazil’s back-line will need to be at its tightest against the dangerous Saudis. Prompted by the pacy duo of Ibrahim Alibrahim and Yahya Dagriri, the Saudis scored eight goals in their opening two group games, seven of them by different players, before turning in a listless display against Nigeria, one that left coach Khalid Alkoroni an unhappy man. Even so, the Middle Easterners had already qualified for the last 16 by then (for the first time ever at the FIFA U-20 World Cup), and are justifiably confident they can cause an upset.

World Cup (Under 20) - Play-Off Nigeria VS England

For all England’s traditional strengths, there has been a dearth of world-class goalkeepers in recent generations. However, young Jack Butland, who is just starting out at the tender age of 18, has been in exceptional form at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011, bringing a smile to the lips of English FA officials and holding out hope of a new, more promising era.

The player, on the books at second-tier Birmingham City, has kept three clean sheets in three games so far, producing some truly breathtaking saves on the way. “I’m obviously very pleased with my performances so far,” Butland told FIFA.com at the team hotel. “But our success is due to the team. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my defenders and every other player,” continued the 6'4 in shot stopper.

The Bristol-born talent joined the Birmingham youth academy four years ago, where excellent training has helped him mature and develop into a classy exponent of his trade. One important factor was working alongside the likes of seasoned internationals such as Joe Hart. “I learned so much from Joe, especially that I should be enjoying myself when I play,” Butland offered. “In the past, I became really angry when I made a mistake. Joe helped me overcome that. He's been a massive help. For a goalkeeper, mental strength is the most important attribute of all.”

World Cup (Under 20) - Group D Croatia U20 vs Guatemala U20

When Gerson Lima went outside to play a backyard game of football twelve years ago, the seven-year-old would have been astonished to hear that one day both he and his young teammate Cristian Lima would be playing for their country at a FIFA competition, and even more surprised if you told him that his name would be plastered on the front page of every paper in the country, hailed as the hero who took Guatemala to Colombia 2011.

Yet four months ago, at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Guatemala, it was the same Gerson Lima, now 18, who scored two group stage goals to take his side through to a quarter final against USA, where he made it a third to achieve a 2-1 victory over the fancied North Americans, booking a berth at the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals and triggering wild celebrations from the more than 13,000 Guatemalans filling the stands.

World Cup (Under 20) - Group C Ecuador U20 vs Costa Rica

Ecuador and Costa Rica will be hoping Spain, who are effectively assured of top spot in Group C, do them a favour by denying Australia the chance to progress. However, given that the Iberians are already through and may, therefore, have less urgency to win their final first-phase match, La Tri and Los Ticos will want to leave nothing to chance. A draw will ensure the Costa Ricans finish above their opponents and likely see them advance, while the Ecuadorians need a victory to end up second in the pool, though a point could also see them progress.

World Cup (Under 20) - Group C Australia vs Spain

Satiating the notoriously demanding Ferrari overlords, justifying the highest salary in Formula One and coping under the coercing umbrella that is Alonsomania were boxes Fernando Alonso set out to tick as 2011 began. Yet El Nano insisted he did not feel encumbered. Rafael Nadal could identify with his fellow Spaniard. The seemingly indomitable tennis genius professed in January: “I don't feel under pressure. I don't feel as though I'm the world number one; I just feel as though I'm one of many competitors in every tournament I enter.”

World Cup (Under 20) - Group F Argentina vs Korea DPR

Dominant in an albeit narrow win over Mexico, Argentina were then held in check by an obdurate England side. Superb against the Mexicans and anonymous against the English, attacking midfielder Erik Lamela is the man who makes the Albiceleste front line tick, although Juan Iturbe can also be relied upon to open up defences should the new Roma signing be having an off day. Aside from their obvious attacking threat, Argentina are also formidable at the back and have yet to concede a goal at Colombia 2011.

That particular statistic makes the North Koreans’ task even more onerous, especially as they have yet to score in the competition. Stubborn yet enterprising in their first outing against England, the Young Chollimas fell apart against Mexico, shipping three goals without creating a single chance. Having set their sights on a top-two finish, Jo Tong-Sop and his charges face an early trip home unless strike duo Pak Song-Chol and Jong Il-Gwan can get their act together and conjure up some goals.

World Cup (Under 20) - Group E Brazil vs Panama

Having collected just a single point from their first two games, Panama will need all the help they can get when they take on mighty Brazil in their final match in Group E of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011. Fortunately for them they have a talented striker in Cecilio Waterman in their ranks, and though neither he nor his team-mates have found the back of the net thus far, he is aiming to put that right on Thursday.

In Spanish-speaking countries at least, Cecilio’s surname suggests he has the kind of superhuman powers that Panama might find useful when they take on Brazil. “Yes, it’s a name people like to makes jokes with, though I’ve never been a big fan of comics or superheroes,” he said. “I’ve always preferred running after a ball or watching football.”

One of five members of the Panama squad based abroad, in his case with Uruguayan club Fenix, Waterman is anxious to set his side’s Colombia 2011 goalscoring record straight and fire the Central Americans to victory over Brazil: “Like any striker I get down when the goals don’t come, though I know I just need to stay calm and keep on working.”

World Cup (Under 20) - Group F Mexico vs Korea DPR

Mexico bounced back from their opening defeat by Argentina with a 3-0 victory over Korea DPR. The win gave El Tri a positive goal difference and leaves them needing only a point against England to be sure of their place in the knockout stages. With that in mind, coach Juan Carlos Chavez may be tempted to opt for a more conservative approach to the one he employed against the North Koreans, despite declaring his intention to respect Mexico’s tradition for attack-minded football.

England, on the other hand, will be more concerned about recording an overdue first victory at the 2011 finals than how they go about it. Brian Eastick’s side will need to win if they are to have any hope of prolonging their stay in Colombia - and that means finding a way to finally break their goalscoring duck at the tournament.

Both teams face the challenge of acclimatising to the heat and humidity in Cartagena, and they will need to adapt quickly if they are to bring their game plans to fruition. The sides are also likely to have one eye on the group’s other match between Argentina and Korea DPR, as they will be keen to discover the final standings and find out who has advanced to the next round.

World Cup (Under 20) - Group F Argentina vs England

The match pits two of world football’s biggest nations against one another, with Argentina starting as favourites. The heavily fancied South Americans boast several players with the potential to light up the tournament, including the gifted duo of Erik Lamela and Juan Iturbe, who starred in the Albiceleste’s opening 1-0 win over Mexico. A second victory would represent a big step towards the knockout stages for the six-time champions, whom coach Walter Perazzo believes are only likely to improve as the tournament wears on.

England have a reputation that would strike fear into most opponents. However, unlike Argentina, the Three Lions are far from full strength in Colombia, with a number of key players staying in England to prepare for the new Premier League season. This perhaps explains their below-par display in drawing 0-0 with Korea DPR, and in particular their drop in form after the half-time interval. “We built the team in just a few weeks,” said coach Brian Eastick. “We’re essentially still in the preparation phase. I could only make three changes against Korea DPR, but I had ten exhausted players.”

World Cup (Under 20) - Group F Mexico vs Korea DPR

A real handful against England in last Friday’s Group F opener in Medellin, Korea DPR striker Pak Song-Chol is a shy, retiring presence off the pitch.

There are some subjects that are guaranteed to get a reaction from the unassuming front man, as FIFA.com found out for itself when discussing the draw for what is regarded as one of the toughest sections at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011.

While most people pointed to the presence of England, Argentina and Mexico, Korea DPR were largely overlooked, an observation that drew an immediate response from the North Korean forward.

“I can understand why everyone focuses on these teams because they are three of the biggest names in world football,” he said before talking up his side’s chances. “I know, though, that we are good enough to take them on. We believe in ourselves, and every player has belief in everyone else. We’ve got talent too and don’t forget that we’re also the reigning Asian champions.”

With him as a spearhead and with able assistance provided by Jong Il-Gwan, who was voted player of the tournament at the 2010 AFC U-19 Asian Championship, the Young Chollimas have the cutting edge to back up Pak’s defiant words and make an impact on the global scene.

World Cup (Under 20) - Group E Brazil vs Austria

At the beginning of the tournament, many observers would have dismissed this fixture as a straightforward three points for Brazil, but that was before witnessing the way in which Egypt managed to make the South Americans look ordinary at times during their initial match. The Austria game has suddenly become a must-win encounter for Ney Franco’s players, as it has for their opponents, held to a draw by Panama. The pressure will be most keenly felt by the respective strikeforces, who squandered numerous opportunities during their nations’ previous games. Against Egypt, Philippe Coutinho, Casemiro, Oscar and Co registered 15 shots on target, 12 corners and one solitary goal. Austria’s front line was no less wasteful, Andreas Weimann and Robert Zulj in particular missing gilt-edged chances to break the deadlock.

The stat
9 – The number of times a Brazilian has finished top scorer at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. Despite the absence of Neymar and Lucas, the South Americans can again boast various candidates in their ranks who could raise the figure to ten.

World Cup (Under 20) - Group E Egypt vs Panama

The Africans come into this match off the back of a highly creditable and well-deserved 1-1 draw with Brazil, an encounter the Egyptians could possibly have won, had it not been for the profligacy exhibited by their misfiring forwards. The result versus A Seleçãozinha will have nevertheless provided a major morale boost to the Pharaohs, who are keen to repeat the performance their team put in the last time the FIFA U-20 World Cup was held on South American soil: third place at Argentina 2001. Egypt will have Ahmed Elshenawi available again, after the goalkeeper was stretchered off in the final minutes of the opening game.

Panama, meanwhile, whose only previous meeting with an African team at the competition – against Burkina Faso in 2003 – ended in defeat, will also be heartened by their 0-0 stalemate with Austria, a result which proved that the Central Americans can hold their own at the event. Coach Alfredo Poyatos has stated that he is likely to offer Gabriel Avila his first start in the tournament, although he did not reveal who would drop to the bench to accommodate the forward.
